Mogadishu – Somalia’s Minister of Interior, Ali Yusuf Xoosh, has declared that the reconstruction and formal establishment of the SSC-Khaatumo Federal Member State is a public aspiration, not a factional or political issue. His remarks came during the official opening of the conference to finalize the formation of the SSC-Khaatumo administration, held earlier today.
Speaking at the event, Minister Xoosh emphasized that the creation of SSC-Khaatumo would resolve longstanding disputes in the Sool and Sanaag regions — areas that have for years been labeled as contested territories.
“No one has the right to dispute your claim to this land. But you also must not place yourselves in unnecessary conflict,” he said, urging unity and restraint among local leaders and communities.
The minister reiterated the full support of the Federal Government of Somalia for the new administration, underscored the importance of overcoming existing challenges and building a stable, legitimate regional government that represents the will of its people.
“Let me remind you clearly: the finalization of the SSC-Khaatumo administration is a people’s dream — not a project of any political group or special interest. It must be a collective effort that deserves full support,” said Minister Xoosh.
He stressed that the Federal Government believes true progress and development in the Sool and Sanaag regions can only be achieved through the presence of a recognized, functional administration that genuinely reflects the interests of the local population.
Minister Xoosh further stated that, upon the conclusion of the current conference, SSC-Khaatumo will be formally recognized as one of the official Federal Member States of Somalia.
The conference marks a significant step in Somalia’s state-building process, especially in light of historical tensions and competing claims in the northern regions. Observers say the successful formation of SSC-Khaatumo could be a turning point for stability and inclusivity in the country’s federal system.
