MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Civil Aviation Authority announced on Tuesday that Aden Adde International Airport, the country’s main gateway, will be closed for one day next week due to security and logistical arrangements linked to local elections in the capital.

In an official notice, the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) said the airport will be shut on Thursday, December 25, 2025, suspending all incoming and outgoing flights to and from Mogadishu for the duration of the closure.

“There will be no aircraft movements during the closure period,” the authority said, advising airlines, travel agencies, and passengers to adjust their schedules accordingly.

The SCAA added that normal airport operations will resume once election-related restrictions are lifted, and urged travelers to monitor official government announcements for further updates.

Temporary restrictions on transport and movement are common in Mogadishu during major political events, as authorities seek to tighten security in a city that has frequently been targeted by militant attacks. While such measures are aimed at ensuring safety, they often disrupt commercial activity and civilian travel.

No further details were provided on the specific security arrangements surrounding the elections.
