Mogadishu – In a significant step toward improving urban sanitation and public services, the Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), has announced the transfer of 300 municipal workers to the city’s Sanitation and Beautification Department.

The move comes as part of a broader effort to revitalize Mogadishu’s infrastructure and enhance the quality of life for its residents. Speaking at a press briefing, Governor emphasized the importance of restructuring the city’s workforce and strengthening key departments to ensure efficient service delivery.

“This transfer is part of our ongoing reforms aimed at creating a responsive, professional municipal system that delivers for the people,” said the mayor. “Our goal is to ensure that the taxes paid by citizens translate into tangible services such as free education, healthcare, and clean, well-maintained streets.”

Governor Muungaab also revealed plans to equip the sanitation department with modern garbage trucks, new facilities, and upgraded offices to support its expanded responsibilities. He stressed that the department’s mission goes beyond street cleaning and aims to transform Mogadishu’s overall image and environment.

The initiative is a major component of the Banadir Regional Administration’s larger campaign to restore order and improve service delivery across the Somali capital. It reflects the administration’s commitment to creating a healthier, cleaner, and more livable city for all residents.
