MOGADISHU — The 2025 Somali Youth Climate Change Summit officially opened today, August 21, 2025, at the Jazeera Hotel in Mogadishu. The summit aims to strengthen the role of Somali youth in addressing climate change and mitigating environmental challenges facing the country.

The event brought together young people from across Somalia, government officials, and international stakeholders. Participants will engage in discussions, workshops, and collaborative initiatives designed to promote innovative solutions for environmental protection and sustainable development.

Organizers emphasized the importance of empowering youth to take an active role in climate action, highlighting that Somalia’s young population can play a critical part in implementing strategies to combat deforestation, drought, and other climate-related risks.

“This summit is a platform to encourage innovation and leadership among Somali youth, ensuring they are central to efforts addressing environmental and climate challenges,” said one of the organizers.

The summit will run for several days, featuring sessions on renewable energy, community-led conservation projects, and partnerships with international climate organizations.
