Mogadishu-(HAN)-The allied forces have today taken control of the areas of Sabiid and Caanoole in Lower Shabelle region, previously under the rule of Al-Shabaab militants.
The takeover follows 15 days of continuous fighting and bombardments in the area.
The Governor of Lower Shabelle, Ibrahim Aadan Ali Najah, confirmed to the media that the Somali National Army, supported by AU troops under the AUSSOM mission, have successfully taken over both Sabiid and Caanoole.
The governor also noted that Al-Shabaab had been oppressing the local population in these areas in recent times.
He stated that operations against Al-Shabaab will continue, urging local residents to cooperate with the national forces.
Currently, the Somali National Army and Ugandan troops under the African Union are in full control of Sabiid and Caanoole, and mine-clearing operations are underway in the area.
