Beledweyne — The Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), in collaboration with international partners, has announced that it carried out a planned operation last night targeting Al-Shabaab militants in the Aboorey area of the Hiiraan region.
According to NISA, the operation specifically targeted a house where senior Al-Shabaab commanders and fighters were holding a meeting. The group was reportedly organizing activities aimed at destabilizing the security of local civilians.
As a result of the operation, NISA confirmed that eight members of the Al-Shabaab militant group were killed. The dead reportedly included both senior leaders and regular fighters of the group, which the Somali government refers to as Khawaarij — a derogatory term used to describe extremist militants.
The agency did not disclose the names or release images of the individuals killed during the operation.
NISA leadership has stated that it is intensifying its operations against Al-Shabaab, focusing on areas where the group is known to be hiding and plotting attacks. The agency emphasized its continued commitment to rooting out the militant threat across Somalia in coordination with both national and international security forces.
