In an exclusive interview with Al Arabiya TV, President Mohamud expressed optimism that the federal government and Jubbaland would reach a political settlement before the country heads to the upcoming elections.

The president emphasized that the ongoing talks are crucial for strengthening Somali unity and solidarity. He stressed that reaching an understanding with Jubbaland would play a significant role in advancing the democratic process and ensuring political stability in the country.

“I hope the dialogue with Jubbaland will culminate in an agreement that fosters trust, unity, and free and fair elections in which the Somali people can fully participate,” President Mohamud stated.

The interview comes as Somalia prepares for critical elections, with political actors expected to show compromise and forge agreements to safeguard national stability.

Last year, the rift between the federal government and Jubbaland reached its peak, sparking armed clashes and creating a tense political environment. The most intense confrontation occurred in Ras Kamboni, Lower Juba region, where federal forces and Jubbaland-aligned troops engaged in heavy fighting.
