MOGADISHU, ((HAN) – According to information obtained by Caasimada Online, Villa Somalia is preparing a trip for President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to Kismayo in a bid to resolve a protracted political dispute. The initiative originated from the presidency, with neighboring countries acting as intermediaries to bring the rival sides together.

The United Arab Emirates has played a particularly active role in the mediation, following several visits by senior Emirati officials to Mogadishu. The Somali government has already implemented a number of UAE recommendations aimed at repairing strained relations with Jubaland leader Ahmed Madobe and Puntland President Said Deni.

These efforts have produced a new understanding between the parties. The agreements reached include restoring normal relations, reopening travel between key cities, and lifting restrictions on development projects.

However, the most contentious issue remains the political future of Ahmed Madobe. President Hassan Sheikh is reportedly ready to accept his continued leadership but insists on revisiting the disputed Jubaland elections of October 2024.

Two options are currently on the table: a two-year interim extension of Madobe’s mandate or his continuation in office without fresh elections. Madobe, for his part, argues that Jubaland’s internal matters should be determined locally, while the federal government should assume responsibility for past missteps, including the Raaskambooni conflict.

President Hassan had initially planned to travel to Kismayo on September 15, but Madobe declined the visit. The trip is now being rescheduled for the end of the month, pending any further developments.
