Mogadishu: The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Hamsa Abdi Barre, stated that it is no longer possible for the country to return to an indirect election system, affirming that power must be handed back to the Somali people. He made these remarks during a dinner reception held tonight at the Mogadishu City Hall in honor of the delegates who participated in the National Consultation Conference.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the government of DanQaran supports the recommendations made regarding elections by Somali leaders who gathered at the consultation platform. He stressed their crucial role in contributing to the democratic process, particularly in the efforts to build a Somali government that reflects the will of the people.
Mr. Hamsa highlighted the need for unity and collective action in order to overcome the challenges associated with indirect governance, including insecurity, flawed elections, economic struggles, and the achievement of national goals.
“We need to move toward a unified system that brings together all Somalis. If we transition away from indirect governance, we will also overcome division, conflict, and other crises facing our country,” said the Prime Minister.
He also thanked the delegates and Somali thought leaders who took part in the conference convened by the President of the Republic. He praised their significant contributions to the discussions and the key decisions made concerning the country’s future.
