Mogadishu – Somali Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre held a meeting today at his office with Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, the newly appointed Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission for Somalia and Head of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), along with his deputy, Mouktar Ousman Karie.

The discussions centered on strengthening cooperation between the Federal Government of Somalia and the AUSSOM mission, which plays a critical role in ensuring security and stabilizing the country.

Prime Minister Hamsa briefed the ambassador on the ongoing military operations against the Al-Shabaab militant group, highlighting the significant progress made in the fight against terrorism.

He also expressed appreciation for the African Union forces’ visible contributions to joint operations and the broader security framework in Somalia.

Ambassador Diene, in turn, thanked the Prime Minister for the warm welcome and praised the continued efforts by the Somali government and people in rebuilding the country and restoring peace.

He reaffirmed the African Union’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s security transition plan, which aims to gradually transfer security responsibilities to Somali national forces.

The meeting underscored the importance of international cooperation and the African Union’s role in fostering long-term peace and stability in Somalia.
