Garowe– The Presidents of Puntland and Jubbaland, Said Abdullahi Deni and Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madobe), have accused the Federal Government of Somalia of misusing federal powers to suppress regional states with differing political views.

In a joint statement issued Thursday morning in Garowe, the two leaders called on the international community to engage directly with Somalia’s federal member states until a comprehensive agreement is reached on the equitable distribution of the nation’s resources.

Puntland and Jubbaland voiced particular concern over the management of Somali airspace, accusing the federal government of unlawfully monopolizing control. They said their formal complaint has been submitted to the United Nations agency responsible for civil aviation.

Deni and Madobe rejected the recent amendments to Somalia’s Provisional Constitution as illegitimate, emphasizing that any constitutional reform must come through national dialogue and consensus. They expressed support for the efforts of the National Salvation Forum, a coalition of Somali opposition politicians.

The two presidents concluded by urging Somalia’s president to respect the constitution agreed upon by all stakeholders and to ensure that future elections are based on national consensus. They warned that if these demands are not met, Puntland and Jubbaland will exercise the autonomous powers granted to them by their respective regional constitutions.
