Bosaso – The government of Puntland has officially confirmed the seizure of a vessel named Sea World, intercepted two days ago off the coast of Bareeda in the Raas-Casayr region. The ship was reportedly carrying a consignment of arms from Turkey en route to Mogadishu.

In an official statement released by Puntland authorities, the vessel’s unauthorized entry into Puntland’s territorial waters was described as a clear violation of international maritime law, citing Articles 19(2)(b) and 19(2)(g) of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). The vessel was said to be carrying visible weaponry without prior notification or diplomatic clearance.

“The actions of Sea World represent a flagrant violation of international maritime norms and a threat to the sovereignty and security of Puntland,” the statement read.

The interception occurred in a known conflict zone where Puntland forces are actively engaged in counterterrorism operations against global terror networks, including Daesh (ISIS). The covert presence of an arms-laden ship in such a volatile area, according to officials, raises serious national and regional security concerns.

Invoking its rights under Articles 25(1) and 27(1) of UNCLOS, Puntland exercised its legal authority to inspect and take enforcement action against unauthorized foreign vessels operating within its territorial waters.

A full investigation has been launched into the vessel’s origin, its owners, the exact nature of the cargo, and its intended destination.

The Ministry of Information confirmed that Sea World is currently being held at the Port of Bosaso as investigations continue. Initial findings suggest the vessel deliberately bypassed both local and international maritime protocols, entering Puntland waters without the necessary clearance.

“The government of Puntland will not tolerate violations of its sovereignty and will continue to uphold international law to protect its people and territorial integrity,” the statement concluded.
