Bosaso – Puntland security forces on Saturday blocked all entrances to Bosaso General Hospital, protesting months of unpaid salaries and deteriorating welfare conditions, Horn Africa News has learned.
Eyewitnesses said the soldiers brought movement around the hospital to a standstill, halting both vehicles and pedestrians in one of the city’s busiest areas. The blockade sparked widespread tension and paralyzed access to urgent medical services.
Residents voiced deep concern over the disruption, warning that patients in need of emergency care were being turned away.
Some of the soldiers, speaking on condition of anonymity, said they resorted to the drastic action after enduring prolonged neglect and repeated government failure to respond to their demands.
So far, Puntland authorities and the Ministry of Security have not issued any official response to the mutiny.
The protest coincided with President Said Abdullahi Deni’s appearance at a graduation ceremony for nearly 500 new police recruits in Carmo, Bari region. The recruits had previously staged demonstrations of their own, citing unpaid stipends and broken promises tied to funding from the United Arab Emirates. Officials said those disputes were later settled, allowing the ceremony to proceed with the president in attendance.
