DOHA — Qatar has expressed its support for Saudi Arabia’s initiative on Yemen, reaffirming its backing for efforts aimed at preserving the country’s unity and advancing political dialogue, according to an official statement released on Tuesday by Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In the statement, Qatar said it supports Saudi-led efforts to stabilize Yemen and welcomed Riyadh’s role in hosting talks involving southern Yemeni parties, describing dialogue as the only viable path toward lasting peace.
“The State of Qatar affirms its full support for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s efforts to maintain Yemen’s unity and to facilitate dialogue among Yemeni parties,” the foreign ministry said, according to the statement.
Qatar emphasized the importance of inclusive political negotiations that take into account the interests of all Yemeni factions, particularly in the south, where divisions over governance and autonomy have complicated peace efforts. The ministry said such talks are essential to preventing further fragmentation and restoring stability.
The statement also reiterated Qatar’s longstanding position in support of Yemen’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, calling on all Yemeni parties to prioritize national interests over political differences.
Saudi Arabia has been leading diplomatic efforts to bring together rival Yemeni groups amid a fragile ceasefire and ongoing negotiations aimed at ending nearly a decade of conflict. Riyadh has hosted several rounds of talks with southern leaders as part of broader attempts to unify political positions and revive a comprehensive peace process.
Yemen’s war, which began in 2014, has killed tens of thousands of people and triggered one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. Despite recent de-escalation and mediation efforts led by regional and international actors, political divisions and security challenges continue to hinder progress toward a lasting settlement.
Qatar said it remains committed to supporting regional and international initiatives aimed at achieving peace in Yemen and alleviating the humanitarian suffering of its people.
