MOGADISHU — The Speaker of Somalia’s House of the People, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Aadan Madoobe), has held talks with the Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Somalia, Ahmed bin Mohamed Al-Muwallad, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting, which took place at the Speaker’s office in Mogadishu on Wednesday, centred on reinforcing the long-standing historical and fraternal ties between Somalia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Discussions covered cooperation in areas including support for government institutions, parliamentary development, political engagement, and broader development initiatives.

According to officials, the talks highlighted Saudi Arabia’s continued support for Somalia’s state-building efforts, particularly in strengthening legislative institutions and enhancing the capacity of the Somali Parliament as part of wider governance reforms.

Ambassador Al-Muwallad praised the leadership of the Speaker and the role of Somalia’s Parliament in rebuilding national institutions following decades of conflict. He reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to sustaining and expanding its assistance to Somalia, with a focus on promoting stability, development, and long-term reconstruction.

“Saudi Arabia remains committed to supporting Somalia’s efforts toward peace, institutional development, and economic recovery,” the ambassador said, according to a statement released after the meeting.

For his part, Speaker Aadan Madoobe expressed gratitude to the Saudi government for its longstanding support to Somalia. He highlighted Saudi Arabia’s contributions in humanitarian assistance, social services, and its continued backing of the Somali government and people during periods of hardship.

The Speaker also underscored the importance of strengthening parliamentary cooperation, noting that an effective legislature is central to democratic governance, accountability, and sustainable development in Somalia.

The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to maintain close cooperation and regular dialogue. Officials said the discussions reflected a shared commitment to advancing mutual interests and deepening diplomatic relations for the benefit of both countries and their citizens.

Saudi Arabia has been one of Somalia’s key partners, providing humanitarian aid, development assistance, and political support, particularly during times of crisis such as droughts and security challenges.
