RIYADH — Saudi Arabia on Monday called on Iran to halt what it described as attacks targeting the kingdom and other Gulf countries, warning that such actions could further destabilize an already tense region.
In a statement, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned what it said were aggressive acts carried out by the Islamic Republic of Iran against Saudi Arabia and several countries in the Gulf region. The ministry said the attacks threaten the security of members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) as well as other Arab, Islamic and allied nations.
The ministry described the alleged attacks as unacceptable and said they cannot be justified under any circumstances. It added that the incidents raise serious concerns about regional security and the potential escalation of tensions in the Middle East.
“Saudi Arabia rejects any acts of aggression that threaten the security and sovereignty of countries in the region,” the statement said. “The kingdom calls on Iran to immediately cease actions that could fuel tensions and undermine regional stability.”
Saudi officials warned that continued attacks could trigger a new surge in political and military tensions across the region, potentially affecting diplomatic relations among countries involved.
The statement also urged the international community to support efforts aimed at protecting regional security and maintaining peace and stability in the Gulf and the broader Middle East.
Iran has not immediately responded to the accusations.
Saudi Arabia and Iran have long been regional rivals competing for influence across the Middle East. Although recent diplomatic efforts have sought to ease tensions between the two countries, disputes over security, regional alliances and influence continue to shape relations between Riyadh and Tehran.
