RIYADH – Saudi Crown Prince Holds High-Level Talks With Eritrean President in Riyadh

Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki held extensive talks on Monday with Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman, during a high-level meeting at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, with particular emphasis on expanding economic cooperation between the two nations.

According to officials, the meeting also addressed a range of regional issues, including developments in the Nile Basin, the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea, and the Arabian Gulf. Both sides exchanged views on the security challenges facing these strategic areas and the potential role Saudi Arabia could play in promoting stability.

President Isaias underscored the importance of Saudi engagement in regional peace efforts, stressing that Riyadh’s influence is critical to ensuring long-term stability across the Horn of Africa and surrounding regions.

For his part, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced that he will soon dispatch a senior Saudi delegation to Eritrea to advance ongoing consultations on key regional matters.

The talks come at a time of notable geopolitical shifts in the region, particularly as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates deepen their involvement in political and security dynamics affecting several countries—including Somalia.
