BELED-HAWO – A senior Jubaland police commander was killed early Monday in a pre-dawn assault on a regional military base in Tula-Amin, Gedo region, according to local sources and security officials.
The attack, described by multiple sources as a well-coordinated operation, was carried out by Somali federal forces under the command of Abdirashid Janan, the recently appointed head of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) for Gedo.
Colonel Hussein Giif, Jubaland’s police chief for the Gedo region, was fatally wounded during the clash, security sources confirmed on condition of anonymity.
Jubaland authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding his death.
Several other Jubaland soldiers were killed or injured in the raid, while federal forces reportedly seized weapons and military vehicles from the site.
The incident highlights the deepening rift between Somali federal troops and regional forces in Gedo, a long-standing hotspot in the political and military standoff between Mogadishu and the Kismayo-based Jubaland administration.
