ELDHEER — The Commander of the Somali National Army’s Land Forces, Major General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, has paid a working visit to Eldheer district in the Galgaduud region as part of efforts to boost the ongoing military campaign aimed at eliminating the Al-Shabaab militant group from central Somalia.

During his stay in Eldheer, General Sahal toured frontline military positions along the forward lines, where he held a series of meetings with officers leading the ongoing operations in the area. The discussions focused on progress in the fight against Al-Shabaab, the security situation in the district, and the needs of the forces in terms of equipment, supplies, and emergency support.

General Sahal praised the courage and dedication of the national forces, commending in particular their recent battlefield successes in Galgaduud, especially in Eldher — an area that has witnessed repeated clashes between government troops and Al-Shabaab.

He urged the troops to maintain the momentum of the offensive and deny militants any opportunity to regroup, emphasizing that the Somali National Army’s General Command stands firmly behind the frontline soldiers and will promptly provide additional support to address their specific operational needs.

The commander stressed that defeating Al-Shabaab requires strong cooperation between the military and local communities, a partnership he described as a vital pillar for the success of ongoing operations.

His visit comes as large-scale military operations against Al-Shabaab continue across much of central Somalia, with the federal government announcing that the second phase of its campaign to completely eradicate the group is now officially underway.
