MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Office of the Attorney General has issued a stern warning against the misuse of social media platforms for defamation, insults, hate speech, and other unlawful activities.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Attorney General’s Office confirmed that it is currently pursuing several cases linked to online misconduct, including defamation, public insults, obscene content, incitement, disinformation, and attempts to incite social division. Some of these cases have already reached the courts, while others are still under investigation.
The statement emphasized that such acts threaten public stability, damage personal reputations, and undermine social trust. It stressed that upholding dignity, safeguarding reputations, and maintaining community peace are crucial pillars of the rule of law and Somalia’s national stability.

The Attorney General’s Office further warned that individuals found guilty of these violations will face strict legal consequences. Authorities added that combating cybercrimes such as defamation and incitement is a key step toward strengthening peace and fostering sustainable social development in Somalia.
