MOGADISHU – Somalia’s Minister of Defense, accompanied by senior government and military officials, on Monday visited the frontlines of ongoing military operations against al-Shabaab militants in Middle Shabelle region.

The delegation included Members of Parliament, the Commander of the Somali National Army’s ground forces, the Governor of Banadir Region, the Governor of Middle Shabelle, and several senior military officers. They traveled to Haji Ali, an area under Adale district, where Somali forces have been engaged in fierce battles with the insurgent group in recent weeks.
According to officials, the purpose of the visit was to assess the progress of the offensive, boost the morale of government troops, and coordinate strategies with field commanders.
The Defense Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to eliminating al-Shabaab strongholds in the region and praised the sacrifices made by Somali soldiers on the frontlines.
The Middle Shabelle region has been a key battleground in the ongoing nationwide campaign to weaken al-Shabaab’s control over rural areas.
The Somali government, supported by local community forces, has stepped up military pressure in strategic locations, including Adale district, in a bid to secure vital supply routes and expand government authority.
Officials accompanying the minister reaffirmed that the federal government will continue to provide both logistical and political support to ensure the success of frontline operations.
The visit comes as the Somali National Army, with backing from international partners, intensifies its second phase of operations aimed at eradicating the militant group from central Somalia.
