DOHA – Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama has participated in the inaugural Global Alliance for Combating Hunger and Poverty Summit held in Doha on Tuesday.

The summit, which brought together world leaders, policymakers, and international organizations, aimed to strengthen cooperation on strategies to eradicate hunger and poverty worldwide.

In his address, Deputy PM Jama reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to international efforts toward food security and poverty reduction. He emphasized the importance of collaboration, partnership, and sustained commitment among nations to achieve global development goals.

“Somalia is determined to play its role in global efforts to end hunger,” Jama said. “We are working to strengthen domestic food production, empower farmers, and expand social services to improve livelihoods.”

He also appealed to the international community to continue supporting Somalia’s stabilization and development initiatives, noting that long-term peace and economic growth are vital to overcoming poverty.

The Doha summit is expected to enhance cooperation between governments, UN agencies, and financial institutions in crafting sustainable strategies to combat hunger—particularly in countries like Somalia that face chronic food insecurity due to conflict and climate shocks.
