MOGADISHU — Federal government ministers and lawmakers from Somalia’s North Eastern regions and Awdal province held a joint press conference in Mogadishu on Tuesday, strongly opposing what they described as a divisive partition plan allegedly announced by Israel.

Addressing journalists, the officials said the plan threatens Somalia’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, warning that any attempt to redraw boundaries or legitimize separation would destabilize the Horn of Africa. They emphasized that communities in North Eastern regions and Awdal have never consented to separation from Somalia and remain firmly committed to the country’s unity.

“The people we represent have not authorized anyone to speak on their behalf regarding partition or separation,” one lawmaker said, adding that such proposals violate Somalia’s provisional constitution and international law.

The lawmakers accused unnamed regional and international actors of attempting to impose political agendas that do not reflect the will of local communities. They called for dialogue, inclusivity and adherence to constitutional processes as the only legitimate path to resolving political disputes.

Several speakers also warned that external interference in Somalia’s internal affairs could inflame existing political tensions and undermine ongoing state-building efforts. They urged the Federal Government of Somalia to take a clear and firm stance against any initiative that promotes division.

The officials further appealed to the international community, including the United Nations and regional bodies, to respect Somalia’s sovereignty and reject any plans that could encourage fragmentation or instability.

The press conference comes amid heightened political sensitivities surrounding governance, federalism and territorial integrity, particularly in northern regions, where disputes over authority and representation have persisted for years.

Somalia has been rebuilding its state institutions following decades of conflict, and federal lawmakers stressed that national unity remains essential to achieving lasting peace, security and development.
