MOGADISHU, (HAN) – Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy, Ahmed Hassan Aden, has met with the World Bank’s Country Manager for Somalia, Hideki Matsunaga, to discuss strengthening cooperation in the fisheries sector.
Talks centered on the Badmaal Project, which was launched last year to boost fisheries infrastructure, improve legal and regulatory frameworks, and empower youth and women working in the industry.
The Ministry said the project has already delivered tangible benefits to fishing communities along Somalia’s coast.
The initiative forms part of wider efforts to revitalize Somalia’s blue economy and support livelihoods in coastal areas.
Both sides pledged to deepen their partnership, stressing the importance of sustained collaboration to strengthen the fisheries sector and improve opportunities for Somali coastal communities.
