MOGADISHU, (HAN) – Somali Federal Government forces on Saturday morning launched large-scale demolitions in the 7/7 neighborhood of Dayniile district, Banadir region, displacing hundreds of families without prior notice.

Bulldozers and heavy machinery moved in suddenly, tearing down houses where low-income families had lived for years. Residents say they were neither warned nor given time to relocate or protect their belongings.

Eyewitnesses from the nearby Saban Saban area told Horn Africa News that security forces blocked all entry and exit routes during the operation, barring residents from seeking assistance and preventing journalists from covering the scene.

Local communities accused the government of systematically displacing poor families across Mogadishu through repeated demolitions in recent years. “These homes were built through years of small savings and hard labor. Now we are left on the streets with nothing,” one resident said.

Civil society groups described the forced evictions as a severe blow to already vulnerable households, many of whom now face homelessness without humanitarian support. They urged the government to provide relocation alternatives and livelihood solutions instead of carrying out abrupt demolitions.

No official statement has been released to explain the reasons behind the operation or outline support plans for the displaced.

The demolitions come amid ongoing insecurity, high unemployment, and economic hardship in Mogadishu, further deepening the struggles of the city’s poorest communities.
