BELEDWEYNE (HAN) – Somali government forces have carried out large-scale security operations across several neighborhoods in Beledweyne, the capital of Hiiraan region, responding to growing public concerns over rising insecurity.

The operations were prompted by complaints from residents who reported increased criminal activity, particularly armed robberies targeting civilians. Authorities say the deployments aim to restore public safety and apprehend armed groups responsible for the attacks.

“We have received numerous complaints from the public about armed robbers terrorizing residents. These operations are part of our ongoing efforts to secure the city,” said a senior police official in Beledweyne.

The security sweep focused on areas previously identified as crime hotspots. Officials confirmed that several suspects had been arrested and are currently under investigation in connection with robberies and other security incidents.

Local residents welcomed the government’s swift response, emphasizing the need for continued patrols and law enforcement presence to maintain peace and stability.

Beledweyne, a strategic regional hub in central Somalia, has long faced security challenges due to the presence of armed groups and clan-related tensions. Experts and residents alike stress that sustained government action is critical to ensuring lasting stability in the town.
