MOGADISHU, (HAN) — The Federal Government of Somalia has praised the national army for a decisive victory against militant groups attempting to launch surprise attacks on civilians near the district of Ceel-Dheer.

Defense Minister Ahmed Moalim Fiqi and Deputy Minister of Information Abdirahman Yusuf Al-Adala briefed the media on Friday, highlighting the success of the Somali National Army (SNA) and local community forces in repelling the militants.

Minister Fiqi stated that the operation delivered a “memorable lesson” to the insurgents, forcing them to retreat in disarray and abandon both their dead and wounded on the battlefield. “The Somali National Army and local fighters in Ceel-Dheer today inflicted heavy losses on the Khawarij, who were attempting to terrorize civilians. They fled, leaving behind their casualties,” Fiqi said.

Deputy Minister Al-Adala, who also spoke about the battle, emphasized the scale of the militants’ defeat.

“The bodies of Khawarij fighters are scattered across Ceel-Dheer after this morning’s clashes. We salute the bravery of our national forces and the local fighters. All thanks belong to God,” he remarked.

The federal government officials further urged both the national forces and residents in other regions of Somalia to unite in the broader campaign aimed at eradicating extremist groups that continue to threaten peace, security, and governance.

The Somali government, with support from local communities, has intensified military operations in central regions as part of its ongoing efforts to dismantle insurgent networks and restore stability in the country.
