MOGADISHU, (HAN) – The Federal Government of Somalia appears to have gained a major political advantage over the opposition, which in recent months had strongly criticized the administration.

The shift comes in the wake of a recent incident that sparked widespread outrage among Mogadishu residents and political figures.

An attack on the Warta Nabadda Police Station, a key security facility in the capital, was seen as an attempt by opposition elements to demonstrate political defiance and force.

However, the move backfired, as many members of the public, religious leaders, and prominent politicians openly condemned the attack, describing it as an assault on public interest, the city’s stability, and the country’s statehood.

Residents of Mogadishu accused the opposition of resorting to violent and destabilizing tactics instead of expressing their political grievances through legitimate and peaceful means.

Some opposition politicians also distanced themselves from the incident, arguing that it did not reflect the will of the people.

The failed attack has unexpectedly given the government a political opening to consolidate wider support, showcasing its capacity to safeguard the capital’s security and stability.

Analysts see this as a significant political win for the government and a major blow to the opposition’s credibility and influence.
