Doolow – The Director of the Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), Mahad Mohamed Salad, is en route to Doolow, a key border town in Somalia’s Gedo region, where he is expected to meet with his Ethiopian counterpart, Redwan Hussein. The high-level bilateral meeting follows an earlier engagement held in Addis Ababa just days ago.

According to official sources, the two intelligence chiefs will focus on strengthening security cooperation along the Somalia-Ethiopia border. Discussions will center on enhancing joint operations, intelligence sharing, and border stability, particularly in light of rising security challenges in the region.

A central component of the meeting’s agenda includes Ethiopia’s continued support for Taliye Janan, who serves as NISA’s regional representative in Gedo. Janan, a powerful figure in the region, has established firm control over key border districts adjacent to Ethiopia. This control has made his cooperation critical for regional security coordination.

Ethiopia, recognizing Janan’s strategic influence, is reportedly compelled to work closely with him to ensure cross-border stability and mutual security interests. This collaboration also signals a shift in the political landscape of Gedo, marking the decline of Jubaland President Ahmed Madobe’s influence in the area.

The Doolow meeting is seen as a significant development in regional security diplomacy, with broader implications for Somali federal dynamics and the role of external actors like Ethiopia in shaping local governance and intelligence operations.
