Beled-Hawo — The Jubbaland regional administration has strongly condemned a military offensive carried out today in the border town of Beled-Hawo, alleging that the attack was ordered by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
In an official statement released shortly after the clashes, Jubbaland claimed that forces belonging to the Somali federal government launched an assault on Beled-Hawo, a strategic town near the Kenya-Somalia border in the Gedo region. The regional authorities labeled the offensive as a deliberate act of aggression that undermines ongoing peace efforts in southern Somalia.
Jubbaland described the incident as a serious violation of trust and cooperation between regional and federal authorities, accusing the federal leadership of fueling instability in an already fragile area. “This unprovoked attack was carried out under direct orders from President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud,” the statement alleged.
Regional officials reported that Jubbaland forces, alongside local residents, successfully repelled the assault and are currently in full control of the town’s security. They credited community members for standing firm in defense of their town.
Jubbaland further warned the federal government against repeating such actions, arguing that attacks like this not only endanger civilians but also threaten the broader peace and stability of the country.
Tensions between the Somali federal government and Jubbaland have remained high for years, especially over control of the Gedo region. Today’s confrontation is likely to further strain relations and could trigger renewed political and security instability if not swiftly addressed.
The Ministry of Internal Security of the Federal Government of Somalia has strongly condemned what it described as a criminal attack carried out today in Beled-Hawo, Gedo region, allegedly orchestrated by Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe), the leader of the Jubaland regional administration.
