MOGADISHU, (HAN) – Somali minister and lawmaker Ahmed Moalim Fiqi has issued a sharp warning to former President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, saying that “no one will stand with you” amid growing political tensions in Mogadishu.

Mr.Fiqi stressed that residents of the Banadir region are entitled to the right to vote and elect their own leaders, accusing Sheikh Sharif and his allies—who recently staged a protest near Warta Nabadda police station—of resisting these rights.

“The people of Banadir have moved beyond the era when politicians could exploit them for narrow interests,” Fiqi said, pointing to planned political activities on Saturday as proof of their determination.

He also questioned Sheikh Sharif’s political agenda, asking why the former president and his supporters have not organized demonstrations in defense of displaced civilians uprooted from their homes by the militant group Al-Shabaab.

The minister’s comments underscore mounting tensions between the government and opposition figures over political representation and security in the Somali capital.
