DHUSAMAREB – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, speaking at a ceremony in Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug State, addressed key national issues including security, the fight against Al-Shabaab, and ongoing dialogue with the opposition.

The President highlighted what he described as his administration’s unprecedented efforts in engaging Somalis through consultations with religious leaders, businesspeople, politicians, and various community groups.

On talks with the opposition, President Hassan noted that his government had hosted five meetings in recent weeks, but said no breakthrough was reached.

He also attributed the deadlock to the opposition’s reluctance to return to the framework of the provisional constitution adopted in 2012.

“We told them, bring forward the clauses you want from Chapter 4. They brought their proposals, and the government agreed. We said we would send them back to Parliament for review, so that other Somalis with different views could also be heard. But beyond that, on constitutional issues, let us settle matters once and for all. Other political concerns can continue to be discussed. Unfortunately, they refused and insisted on prolonging the meetings,” President Hassan explained.

Concluding his remarks, the President said he remains confident in his leadership and stressed that the nation’s interests outweigh personal politics. He urged political actors to prioritize the country over partisan agendas, reminding that his presidential mandate is still ongoing.
