MOGADISHU (HAN) — The Somali Federal Parliament on Saturday approved several nominees to the country’s Independent Human Rights Commission, including Farhan Mohamed Jimale, the Director of the Ministry of Information.
Jimale, a respected journalist and public servant, received parliamentary approval following a majority vote of confidence during today’s session of the House of the People. His appointment marks a significant milestone in Somalia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen human rights protection and promote accountability.
Colleagues and media professionals congratulated Jimale for his new role, praising his long-standing dedication to journalism, transparency, and public service.
“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to our Director of Information, Farhan Mohamed Jimale, for being approved as a member of the Independent Human Rights Commission,” said a statement from the Ministry of Information. “We wish him success in his new responsibility and hope he will soon lead the commission with integrity and commitment.”
The Somali Independent Human Rights Commission is tasked with monitoring, promoting, and protecting human rights across the country, in line with the Provisional Federal Constitution and international human rights conventions Somalia has ratified.
Jimale’s appointment is seen as a boost to the commission’s credibility and a step toward advancing justice and accountability in the country.
