BAGHDAD — Lieutenant General Asad Osman Abdullahi, Chief of the Somali Police Force, has embarked on an official working visit to Iraq, aimed at bolstering security collaboration and sharing expertise between the two nations.

Upon arrival, Lt. Gen. Asad and his delegation were welcomed by Lieutenant General Saad Khalaf Badr, Chief of the Federal Police of Iraq, alongside Ridwaan Hirsi Mohamed, Iraq’s Ambassador to Somalia, and Major General Ala’a Cashoor Matani, Director of International Cooperation at the Iraqi Ministry of Interior, among other senior officials.

The visit follows an official invitation from the Iraqi Police Chief, underscoring the commitment of both countries to strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of security and law enforcement.

During the visit, both sides are expected to engage in discussions on joint training programs, exchange of professional expertise, and strategies for counter-terrorism operations. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts by Somalia to enhance the capacity of its security forces while fostering international partnerships.

Officials from both countries emphasized that the cooperation will focus on capacity building, operational coordination, and experience sharing, particularly in countering terrorism and organized crime, which remain common security challenges in the region.

This high-level engagement marks a continued effort by Somalia to reinforce its security institutions and international ties, while deepening relations with Iraq through strategic collaboration in policing and security management.
