Mogadishu – Prominent Somali political analyst and, Mohamed Hadir Nur, has accused President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of deliberately wasting the time of opposition leaders united under the National Salvation Forum. In an interview with Radio Shabelle, Hadir criticized the president for failing to engage in genuine dialogue aimed at resolving the country’s ongoing political crisis.

Hadir revealed that the opposition had held three separate meetings with the president, which were initially intended to result in meaningful political understanding and a shift in the tense national climate. However, he stated that none of the meetings produced tangible outcomes, instead becoming a repetitive cycle of unfulfilled promises.

“These meetings turned out to be a complete waste of time, when what was needed was a political solution,” Hadir said. “The President seems unwilling to engage in sincere consultation with the opposition.”

He further argued that each meeting ended with a promise of future dialogue, which he described as a calculated tactic to mislead the opposition and prevent them from exerting real political pressure.

Mr. Hadir also highlighted growing public frustration with what he called “false promises and meaningless conferences,” warning that continued political stagnation could deepen the public’s mistrust in the federal government.

His comments come amid escalating tensions between the federal government and the Puntland and Jubaland administrations, particularly over issues of power-sharing, electoral processes, and the management of national resources.

The federal government is under increasing domestic and international pressure, with both the Somali public and international partners demanding leadership that can unify the nation and deliver lasting solutions, rather than fruitless meetings.

In his closing remarks, Mohamed Hadir Nur called on the president to “end the political theatre” and initiate a genuine, good-faith national dialogue based on honesty, patience, and the greater good of the Somali people.
