JEDDAH – Somalia’s Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, attended the 2nd Maritime Industry Conference in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, joining officials, experts, and private sector representatives from across the Arab world and beyond.

The two-day summit focuses on maritime development, port management, and modern shipping.
In his address, Nur described the event as a “strategic opportunity” for Somalia to strengthen global maritime partnerships. He noted that Somalia, with Africa’s longest coastline, could turn its maritime resources into a key source of revenue if managed effectively.
The minister emphasized Mogadishu’s efforts to modernize ports, align management systems with global standards, and expand cooperation with Saudi Arabia in trade, fisheries, and maritime training.
Experts at the summit highlighted Somalia’s potential in the “blue economy,” including fisheries, marine energy, and port services. Nur said his government is drafting new legislation and policies to support sustainable growth in the sector while protecting marine resources.
Observers see Somalia’s participation as a step toward deeper international engagement and economic recovery for the Horn of Africa nation.
