MOGADISHU — President Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of the Federal Republic of Somalia has appointed Dr. Yahya Ibrahim Macalin as the Senior Political Advisor and Coordinator of Presidential Programs at the Office of the President.
Dr. Yahya, a former university lecturer in the United Kingdom, brings extensive experience in political affairs, state-building, research, international relations, economic development, and leadership training. He holds advanced degrees, including a Master’s and PhD, from Northampton University and Birmingham University, and has worked extensively in conflict resolution and peacebuilding initiatives.
In his new role, Dr. Yahya is expected to play a central part in shaping national policies and coordinating strategic programs, ensuring that critical decisions are informed by evidence-based research and tailored to Somalia’s unique political, social, and economic context.
Presidential sources say that Dr. Yahya will also focus on capacity-building for the next generation of Somali leaders, bridging academic knowledge with practical governance skills. His appointment signals the government’s commitment to strengthening institutional coordination, enhancing policy formulation, and promoting national unity through informed and strategic decision-making.
Dr. Yahya’s experience in both academia and practical governance is seen as an asset in supporting the President’s office to navigate complex political challenges, implement reforms, and advance Somalia’s development agenda.
