NEW YORK, (HAB) – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has arrived in New York to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), which opens on September 22, 2025.

The annual gathering brings together leaders from all 193 UN member states to address pressing global challenges, including peace and security, climate change, sustainable development, and humanitarian crises.
Somalia is expected to use the platform to highlight its state-building progress, ongoing fight against terrorism, and the need for stronger international support in reconstruction and development.
While in New York, President Mohamud will also hold bilateral meetings with other world leaders to discuss security cooperation, economic partnerships, and strengthening diplomatic ties.
His participation underscores Somalia’s engagement with the international community and commitment to contributing to global dialogue on peace, stability, and development.
