MOGADISHU – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is set to travel to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he will attend the second African Climate Summit.

During his stay, President Hassan Sheikh is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. He will also meet with several African leaders attending the summit to discuss regional cooperation on climate challenges.
At the conference, the Somali president is expected to deliver a keynote address outlining Somalia’s environmental conditions and the country’s growing vulnerability to climate change. He will also hold meetings with international organizations and agencies engaged in environmental protection and climate action.
The visit comes at a sensitive time as Ethiopia prepares to inaugurate its controversial Nile dam project, a development strongly opposed by Egypt, which views the dam as a threat to its national interests.
President Hassan Sheikh’s participation in the summit underlines Somalia’s efforts to highlight the devastating impact of climate change on its people while engaging in wider regional and international climate dialogues.
