Mogadishu: Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud officially launched Somalia’s National Vision 2060 on Monday, calling for direct presidential elections and urging all Somalis to unite around peace, development, and national cohesion.

During the launch even in Mogadishu, the President declared that the time had come for Somalis to directly elect their leaders, stating that this step is crucial for building a peaceful, united, and forward-looking Somalia.
“The time has come for us to move beyond despair and embrace innovation and collective action,” he said. “This Vision is the bridge between today and tomorrow—the legacy we leave behind and the promise we pass on to future generations.”
According to President Mohamud, the Vision 2060 framework represents a generational commitment to building a prosperous, self-reliant nation capable of competing with developed economies.
He identified three key pillars of the National Vision:
- National unity and preservation of Somali values
- Homegrown solutions rooted in domestic realities
- Public interest as the foundation of governance

President Mohamud urged Somalis inside the country and abroad to actively engage in making the strategy a reality, emphasizing that its success depends on the collective effort of the Somali people.
“Somalia has entered a new era,” he said, highlighting the country’s consistent progress toward lasting development.
