NEW YORK, (HAN) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held a bilateral meeting with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed strengthening cooperation between Somalia and the United Nations, with a particular focus on regional peace, security, and sustainable development.
President Mohamud expressed his gratitude to the Secretary-General for the UN’s continued support to the Somali people and government.
He also briefed Mr. Guterres on progress made in Somalia’s security sector, preparations for upcoming elections, and the ongoing fight against terrorism.
The President emphasized his administration’s commitment to consolidating peace and stability in Somalia, while the Secretary-General reaffirmed the UN’s readiness to stand alongside Somalia in advancing its national priorities.
