MOGADISHU, (HAN) — Somalia’s President is reportedly preparing to appoint new senior officials, including the Interior Minister and the head of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), in what is seen as a move to bolster governance and security.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Abdurahman Odowaa is expected to be named Somalia’s next Minister of Interior, while Ahmed Moallim Fiqi is slated to take over as Director of NISA. Both appointments are part of what insiders describe as a broader effort to strengthen state institutions and improve coordination of internal security operations.

Officials close to Villa Somalia, the presidential palace, say that while formal announcements have yet to be made, the appointments could be confirmed in the coming days. The move comes amid increasing concerns about terrorism, Al-Shabaab attacks, and regional instability, which have continued to challenge the country’s political and security landscape.

Analysts note that the reshuffle is likely intended to enhance administrative efficiency and consolidate authority within the Somali government, which has faced long-standing issues of political fragmentation and bureaucratic inefficiency.

These expected changes also align with ongoing discussions within Somali political circles about a potential cabinet reshuffle, signaling an effort by the presidency to assert stronger control over key security and governance structures.

As Somalia navigates a complex security environment, the new appointments are expected to play a critical role in shaping the country’s internal security strategy and governance reforms.
