DHUSAMAREB – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has arrived today in Dhusamareb, the capital of the Galmudug regional state, in a visit seen as a fresh push to re-energize the fight against Al-Shabaab militants.

According to reliablw sources close to Villa Somalia, the president’s primary goal is to rally political leaders, military commanders, and traditional elders in Galmudug behind a renewed military campaign targeting extremist strongholds in the region.

The visit comes at a critical time as federal and regional forces prepare to launch what is being described as the second phase of the national counterterrorism offensive, after earlier operations stalled in several frontline areas.

Key priorities on President Hassan Sheikh’s agenda include:
1. Restarting Liberation Operations – The federal government, with international support, aims to relaunch offensives that had slowed down, focusing on recapturing areas still under Al-Shabaab control.
2. Restructuring the Somali National Army – The president is advancing plans to build a stronger, self-reliant national force capable of taking over the country’s security as African Union troops gradually draw down.
3. Maximizing ATMIS Support – Efforts are underway to accelerate joint operations with African Union peacekeepers, particularly in ground combat and logistical backing.
4. Expanding International Airstrikes – Mogadishu is working with global partners to intensify precision air raids targeting militant hideouts, leadership hubs, and supply routes.

The Dhusamareb trip is widely viewed as a pivotal step in unifying military and community efforts against Al-Shabaab in Galmudug, a region where the group has entrenched itself. Analysts say the move signals President Hassan Sheikh’s determination to escalate military pressure and deny militants the ability to regroup.

If successful, the initiative could mark a turning point in Somalia’s long fight against extremism, shifting momentum back in favor of federal and regional forces.
