MOGADISHU, (HAN) – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has called on the authorities in the newly formed Northeastern administration to release prisoners held in their custody as part of efforts to promote peace and reconciliation.

Speaking in Mogadishu, President Hassan described the administration as “a product of the will of the people” and urged its leaders to focus on improving security, building local governance structures, and delivering essential services.

He stressed that the creation of the Northeastern administration should not be interpreted as separation from neighboring regions, but rather as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation and peaceful coexistence.

The president further encouraged measures to ease the movement of people and goods in order to boost trade and economic growth in the region.

“The release of detainees would be an important step toward lasting peace and reconciliation between communities,” he added.
