MOGADISHU – Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Monday launched a ministerial accountability process designed to track government performance and ensure ministries deliver on their pledges under the administration’s DanQaran (National Interest) agenda.

The review, which began with ministries operating under the Economic Development Pillar, is part of the government’s broader National Transformation Plan. Ministers were required to present their annual progress reports and outline future strategies in line with commitments they previously signed with the prime minister.

According to government officials, key achievements presented during the session included:

Revenue growth and reforms: Ministries highlighted an increase in domestic revenue collection and the adoption of modern financial management systems to improve transparency and accountability.Industrial and trade development:

Efforts have been made to stimulate industrialization, simplify trade processes, and attract more foreign investment.

Agriculture and water systems: Significant strides were reported in agricultural expansion, irrigation upgrades, and boosting food security.
Infrastructure projects: Progress was noted in road construction, rehabilitation of ports and airports, and improved marine resource management. Job creation initiatives: Several ministries underscored community-based employment programs, particularly targeting young people and vulnerable groups affected by unemployment and insecurity.

Prime Minister Barre emphasized that the accountability framework is central to building public trust and ensuring ministries are directly contributing to Somalia’s stability and development goals. He said the review process will continue across all government sectors in the coming weeks, allowing citizens to track the government’s progress in real time.

Observers note that this is the first structured performance review of its kind under Barre’s leadership, signaling a push toward greater transparency in a country long affected by weak institutions and corruption.
