MOGADISHU, (HAN) – The Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction, and Housing of the Federal Government of Somalia, Dr. Elmi Mahamoud Nur, held an important meeting today with a delegation from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), focusing on strengthening cooperation in the areas of housing, reconstruction, and social services for Somali citizens.

The Minister was accompanied by several senior directors from the Ministry. The talks centered on strategies to improve living conditions for displaced persons and vulnerable communities across Somalia.
During the meeting, IOM presented new shelter designs aimed at providing safe, sustainable, and dignified housing solutions for internally displaced persons (IDPs). Both sides emphasized the urgency of accelerating plans to roll out affordable and quality housing projects, particularly in urban areas where many displaced families currently live in overcrowded and unsafe conditions.
Another key agenda item was the review of the existing cooperation agreement between the Ministry and IOM. Officials discussed ways to strengthen coordination, streamline project implementation, and ensure that international support is aligned with Somalia’s national housing and reconstruction priorities.
Minister Dr. Elmi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving essential social services, including housing, water, sanitation, and infrastructure. He noted that strong international partnerships, such as the collaboration with IOM, are vital for addressing the challenges faced by Somali citizens in need.
