BAIDOA — Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) Director, Mahad Mohamed Salad, and Police Commissioner, Brigadier General Asad Osman Abdullahi, on Saturday held high-level meetings in the southwestern city of Baidoa aimed at strengthening coordination between local authorities and federal security institutions.
The two officials met with district-level leaders from South West State, focusing on enhancing cooperation to improve security operations and ensure long-term stability in Baidoa and its surrounding areas.
According to officials familiar with the discussions, the meeting emphasized the need for closer collaboration between civilian administrators and security agencies to address ongoing security challenges, including threats posed by militant groups and the need to maintain public order.
The visit comes as Somali authorities continue efforts to consolidate security gains in key المدن across the country, particularly in regional administrative centers such as Baidoa, which plays a strategic role in the southwest.
In a separate session, the two commanders also held a consultative meeting with representatives from independent and local media outlets operating in South West State. The discussions focused on the role of the media in public awareness, countering misinformation, and supporting peacebuilding initiatives.
Officials highlighted the importance of constructive engagement between journalists and security institutions, noting that accurate and responsible reporting can contribute to improved public trust and community resilience.
“The media is a key partner in promoting stability and informing the public,” one participant said, stressing the need for regular dialogue between journalists and security agencies.
