OSLO – A 20-year-old Somali-Norwegian, Hashim Abdi, has made history as one of the youngest members ever elected to the Norwegian Parliament.

Born to refugee parents, Hashim grew up in a low-income neighborhood. His mother works as a cleaner, while his father drives a taxi. Despite these humble beginnings, he pursued his political ambitions with determination and resilience.
Hashim’s success story reflects his belief that ambition, hard work, and talent should not be obstructed by corruption, nepotism, or discrimination. Now, as a newly elected lawmaker, he will be responsible for decisions on Norway’s national budget, which amounts to $188 billion.
Prominent Somali politician Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame congratulated Hashim on Facebook, writing: “Congratulations Hashim, and also to Maryan Abdi Hussein,” acknowledging both young Somali-Norwegian trailblazers.
Hashim’s achievement is being celebrated as a milestone for representation and inclusion, especially for minority communities in Norway.
