MOGADISHU, (HAN) – Somalia’s Minister of Ports and the newly appointed Director of Public Relations at the Turkish Presidency have agreed to work together on developing a joint media strategy between the two countries, according to official statements.

The announcement follows recent coverage by Turkish state media highlighting Somalia’s progress and ongoing transformation. Both sides emphasized that enhancing media cooperation would further solidify the partnership between Mogadishu and Ankara.
The Somali minister thanked the Turkish official for his significant role in helping mediate the past dispute between Somalia and Ethiopia during his tenure as Turkey’s Deputy Foreign Minister.
In a written statement, Burhanettin Duran noted: “The two brotherly and friendly nations, Somalia and Türkiye, will continue to strengthen their relations, as they are already advancing in many fields, including strategic communications. The historic ties and shared experiences with the Somali people will remain the strongest pillar of our support, cooperation, and common future.”
Somalia and Türkiye maintain close relations spanning diplomacy, security, trade, and development. The new push for joint media strategy marks another step in aligning the two countries’ long-term cooperation.
