KAMPALA, (HAN) – The Federal Minister of Internal Security of the Federal Republic of Somalia, General Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag), held a productive bilateral meeting today in Kampala with his Ugandan counterpart, Hon. Jim Katugugu Muhwezi, Minister of Security for the Republic of Uganda.

The discussions centered on strengthening bilateral security cooperation between Somalia and Uganda, with a particular focus on joint counterterrorism operations, intelligence sharing, and capacity-building initiatives for the security forces of both nations.

Minister Fartaag expressed his gratitude to the Government of Uganda for its continued support to Somalia, especially Uganda’s vital contribution to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). He underscored the importance of deepening collaboration between the two ministries to foster lasting peace and regional stability.

For his part, Minister Muhwezi commended the Federal Government of Somalia for its steady progress in enhancing internal security and rebuilding national security institutions. He reaffirmed Uganda’s strong commitment to sustaining and expanding its security partnership with Somalia in the ongoing fight against terrorism and regional insecurity.

The meeting reaffirmed the longstanding diplomatic and security relations between Somalia and Uganda—two nations playing a crucial role in advancing peace and stability across the Horn of Africa.
